LG Microwave Repair in Banashankari

A microwave that runs but does not heat has a short list of possible causes, and only one of them is the expensive part — which is why this repair is worth diagnosing properly rather than guessing.

Banashankari is a quieter, established south Bengaluru residential area along Kanakapura Road, with a mix of independent houses and mid-rise apartments. Visits here tend to be straightforward, with less traffic-related delay than the IT-corridor areas.

W2 is an independent appliance repair company. We are not an authorised LG service centre and have no affiliation with LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd.. If your microwave is still under manufacturer warranty, contact LG directly first — that service is free to you. We are the option once the warranty has run out, or when you want a second opinion or a faster visit.

  • Magnetron testing and replacement
  • High-voltage diode and capacitor testing
  • Door interlock switch replacement (all three in series)
  • Turntable motor and coupler replacement
  • Control board and membrane keypad diagnosis

Runs but does not heat: how the fault is actually found

"It runs, the plate turns, the light is on, but the food comes out cold" is the most common microwave complaint there is, and it has a specific and quite short list of causes. The order they are checked in is what separates a proper diagnosis from an expensive guess.

The high-voltage side, in order of likelihood. A microwave generates its cooking energy in a magnetron, which is fed by a transformer, a high-voltage capacitor and a high-voltage diode. When the oven runs but does not heat, the fault is almost always in that chain. The diode and the capacitor fail more often than the magnetron and cost a fraction of it, so they are tested first. Being quoted a magnetron before those two have been checked is the most common way people overpay on a microwave repair — and on a mid-range oven, a magnetron plus labour can approach the price of a new one, so the distinction genuinely decides whether repair makes sense.

The door switches, which stop it running at all. LG ovens use three interlock switches in series that must all confirm the door is closed. It is a safety design and it works, but the switches are mechanical and they wear. When one fails the oven typically does nothing at all — no light, no fan, no response — which reads like a dead control board or a dead oven. It is a cheap part and a contained repair. A door that has dropped slightly on its hinges causes the same symptom with perfectly good switches, so alignment is checked before anything is replaced.

Sparking is a stop-now fault. Arcing inside the cavity is usually the waveguide cover — a small mica panel on the side wall that shields the opening where the microwave energy enters. Food splatter carbonises on it, the carbon arcs, and the arcing then burns the cover further. Switch the oven off and stop using it. Replacing the cover is inexpensive; continuing to run it burns the cavity wall and can damage the magnetron, which turns a small job into a large one.

A safety point we will not soften. The high-voltage capacitor in a microwave holds a lethal charge after the oven is unplugged, and it can hold it for a long time. This is not the appliance to open at home. Every other repair in this list is one we would happily explain over the phone; this one genuinely is not.

On convection models the added heating element, its fan and its thermostat bring their own faults — usually an element that has failed open, giving you a working microwave with no convection at all.

Is W2 an authorised LG service centre?

No. We are an independent multi-brand service centre with no affiliation to or appointment from LG Electronics India. If your oven is still in warranty, use LG's own service channel — an outside repair can void it, and we will check the purchase date before quoting.

My LG microwave runs but does not heat. Is the magnetron gone?

Not necessarily, and it should not be assumed. The high-voltage diode and capacitor sit in the same circuit, fail more often than the magnetron and cost far less. Insist both are tested first. On a mid-range oven the difference decides whether repairing is sensible at all against buying new.

The microwave is completely dead — no light, no fan.

On an LG that usually points at the door interlock switches. There are three in series and all must confirm the door is shut before anything powers up, so a single failed switch makes the oven appear entirely dead. It is an inexpensive part. A door that has dropped on its hinges gives the same symptom, so alignment gets checked too.

There is sparking inside my microwave. What do I do?

Switch it off and stop using it now. Arcing is nearly always the mica waveguide cover on the side wall, where carbonised food splatter has started to arc. Replacing the cover is cheap. Continuing to run it burns the cavity wall and can take the magnetron with it, which is a much bigger bill.

Can I repair a microwave myself?

Please do not. The high-voltage capacitor stores a potentially lethal charge even after the oven has been unplugged, and it can hold that charge for a long time. Cleaning and clearing the turntable are fine. Anything behind the case is genuinely dangerous, and this is the one appliance where we will not talk anyone through a home repair.

Is W2 an authorised LG service centre in Banashankari?

No. W2 is an independent appliance repair company and is not authorised by LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd.. If your microwave is still under manufacturer warranty, use the brand's own service channel first — you will not be charged. We are the option for out-of-warranty machines, second opinions, and faster turnaround.
