The Germkill Kit and why your Pureit stopped on purpose
Pureit's non-electric storage purifiers do something no other brand does: when the germkill consumable reaches the end of its rated volume, the unit stops dispensing altogether. Not a warning light — it stops. The reasoning is defensible, since a purifier that keeps delivering water after its disinfection capacity is exhausted is arguably more dangerous than one that stops. But the practical effect is that a great many owners conclude the machine has broken and call for a repair when what it needs is a consumable.
So the first question on any Pureit call is which model you have. On a Germkill Kit model, water stopping is expected behaviour at end of life, the indicator will have been counting down for a while, and the fix is a kit change rather than a repair. Nothing is wrong with the machine. We would rather establish that on the phone than charge you a visiting fee to tell you in person, and we will try.
On the electric RO models the picture is conventional. Pre-filters protect the membrane and are consumables on a schedule. The membrane goes when output TDS climbs relative to input — and it is the ratio that matters, not the output number in isolation, whatever anyone with a TDS meter tells you at your door. The booster pump and the SMPS adapter are the most common electrical failures and present as no water production. Float and solenoid valve faults cause continuous running, overflow, or a tank that never fills.
Bengaluru's water is the variable that sets your costs. On hard borewell supply, both the Germkill Kit on the storage models and the membrane on the RO models are consumed faster than the rated figures suggest, because both are rated against typical municipal input. That is not a fault and it is not a reason to distrust the machine — it is what your water is doing. Knowing your input TDS lets you plan for it instead of being surprised by it, and we will measure and tell you.
One thing worth checking before calling anyone. On storage models, water not dispensing sometimes comes down to the tap assembly or a kit that has not been seated correctly after the last change rather than the kit being exhausted. It is quick to check and it costs nothing.

Is W2 an authorised Pureit service centre?
No. We are an independent multi-brand service centre with no affiliation to or appointment from Hindustan Unilever. If your purifier is in warranty or covered by a Pureit plan, use that channel — you have already paid for it.
My Pureit has stopped giving water completely. Is it broken?
On a Germkill Kit storage model, almost certainly not. These units deliberately stop dispensing once the kit reaches the end of its rated volume, rather than continuing to deliver water they can no longer disinfect. It needs a kit change, not a repair. Tell us the model when you call and we will often confirm it without a visit.
How long does a Germkill Kit last?
It is rated in litres rather than months, so it depends entirely on how much water your household draws — and on hard borewell water it is consumed faster than the headline figure implies, because that rating assumes typical municipal input. The indicator counts down as you use it, which is worth watching rather than waiting for the stop.
The RO model is running but the tank never fills.
Usually the booster pump, the SMPS adapter, a jammed float valve or a completely choked sediment pre-filter. The cheap causes get checked first. A membrane at the end of its life slows production rather than stopping it, so a tank that never fills at all points elsewhere.
Someone told me my TDS is too high and I need a new purifier.
Ask them for the input reading as well as the output. A single output number proves nothing on its own — what matters is how much the machine is removing. If input is 700 and output is 60, it is working. We measure and show you both, and we do not sell purifiers, so we have no reason to tell you that you need one.
