Finding an RO leak: it is almost always a seal
Domestic purifiers run at pressure through a series of plastic housings and push-fit joints. Leaks are common, they are almost always at a seal or a joint rather than in a component itself, and they are usually inexpensive to fix -- provided they are found before the water has been sitting in the cabinet for weeks.
Filter housing O-rings. The most common leak by a distance, and it very often appears right after a filter change. The housings seal on a rubber O-ring that must be clean, undamaged and correctly seated. If it was nicked, twisted, left dry, or reused when it should have been replaced, the housing weeps under pressure. This is why a filter change should always be followed by a proper pressure check rather than just switching the unit back on.
Push-fit connectors. The tubing runs on quick-connect fittings. They are reliable but they depend on the tube being cut square and pushed fully home. A tube cut at an angle, or one that was pulled partly out during a service, will seep. Perished or kinked tubing does the same.
The storage tank. Tanks can develop leaks at the seam or, more often, at the tank valve where it threads in. A tank that is genuinely cracked needs replacing; a valve seal usually does not.
The membrane housing. Larger seal, same principle, and it is opened less often so its O-ring is easy to forget during a membrane change.
Why it matters more than a bit of water. The pump, solenoid and control electronics sit inside the same cabinet. A slow leak that has been dripping onto them for weeks corrodes connections and eventually causes electrical faults that cost far more than the seal did. If you can see water pooling in the base of your purifier, it is worth dealing with promptly.
Tracing it properly. A leak found while the system is depressurised may not be the leak that appears under pressure. The correct approach is to dry everything thoroughly, run the system up to pressure and watch, rather than guessing from where the water has collected -- water travels along tubing and housings before it drips.
