Faber Chimney Service and Repair in Bangalore

Auto-clean does not mean self-cleaning, and the gap between those two phrases is responsible for most of the low-suction Faber chimneys we are called out to.

W2 Home Appliances is an independent multi-brand service centre. We are not an authorised Faber service centre and are not affiliated with, appointed by, or endorsed by Faber Heatkraft Industries Ltd.. "Faber" and all other brand names are trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to describe the appliances we repair. If your unit is still inside the manufacturer warranty, use Faber Heatkraft Industries Ltd.’s own service channel first — an outside repair can void that cover, and we will tell you so rather than take the job.

What \"auto-clean\" actually does, and why suction still drops

Faber has the largest chimney installed base in India and its auto-clean models are the ones we service most, so it is worth being precise about what auto-clean is. A heating element warms the oil collected in the blower housing until it liquefies, and the blower flings it into a detachable collector cup. That is all. It moves oil that has already been caught into a cup you then have to empty. It does not clean the baffle filters, it does not clean the hood, and it does not clean the duct. Owners are told the chimney cleans itself, they never open anything, and eighteen months later the suction has collapsed.

Indian cooking loads a chimney far harder than the design assumptions. Tempering spices in hot oil, deep frying and daily tadka aerosolise a great deal more grease than the sautéing that European hood designs were originally optimised for. Baffle filters catch that grease by forcing the air through sharp changes of direction, and they do it well — until the channels silt up, at which point they become a restriction rather than a filter. Baffle filters need washing every few weeks in a normal Indian kitchen, not every few months. That single habit is the difference between a chimney that still works at year five and one that does not.

When suction is poor and the filters are clean, look at the duct. This is the fault that gets misdiagnosed as a tired motor more than any other, and it is usually an installation decision made years earlier. Every bend in the ducting costs airflow and every extra metre costs more; a duct that runs a long way around a false ceiling with three or four elbows in it can lose a large fraction of the chimney's rated capacity before the air ever reaches outside. The non-return flap at the outlet is the other one — it is there to stop birds, insects and backdraught, and when it seizes shut with congealed grease the chimney is effectively blowing against a closed door. Both are fixable, and neither needs a new motor.

The motor itself fails in a recognisable way. A rising whine or a rumble that gets worse over weeks is bearings, and catching it at that stage is a bearing job rather than a motor replacement. Ignored, the bearing seizes and takes the motor with it. Sudden total silence with the panel still lit is more often the touch panel or the PCB than the motor — worth establishing before a motor is quoted.

Oil dripping back onto the hob means the collector is full, the filters are saturated, or the chimney is mounted too high above the hob to capture properly. All three are fixable and none is a failure of the appliance.

FAQ

Faber Chimney Service and Repair in Bangalore — frequently asked questions.

Is W2 an authorised Faber service centre?

No. We are an independent multi-brand service centre with no affiliation to or appointment from Faber Heatkraft Industries. If your chimney is still in warranty, use Faber's own service channel first, because an outside repair can void the cover.

I have an auto-clean chimney. Why does it still need servicing?

Because auto-clean only liquefies the oil already caught in the blower housing and flings it into a collector cup you empty yourself. It does not clean the baffle filters, the hood or the duct. Those still need washing and periodic deep cleaning, and the belief that they do not is the single most common reason auto-clean chimneys lose suction.

How often should baffle filters be cleaned?

In a typical Indian kitchen with regular frying and tempering, every three to four weeks. That is far more often than most people assume. Once the baffle channels silt up they stop being a filter and become a restriction, and the suction loss that follows is usually blamed on the motor.

Suction is weak but I have cleaned the filters. What now?

Look at the duct before the motor. Every bend and every extra metre of ducting costs airflow, so a long run with several elbows can lose a large share of rated capacity. The other common cause is the non-return flap at the outlet seizing shut with congealed grease, which leaves the chimney blowing against a closed door.

The chimney has become very noisy.

A whine or rumble that has worsened over weeks is almost always motor bearings. Caught early it is a bearing replacement; left until it seizes it takes the motor with it, which is a much larger bill. Sudden total silence with the panel still lit is more likely the touch panel or PCB than the motor.

90-day service warranty, on every job.

If the exact same fault returns within 90 days of the visit, we fix it again at no charge — written on your digital bill, not just promised verbally. Replaced parts also carry the supplier's own part warranty on top.
