Chimney cleaning is the service where what you actually receive varies most between providers, and the difference is not visible when the technician leaves. A couple of questions sort it out beforehand.
Ask whether the blower wheel is included. This is the whole thing. Many cheap chimney cleanings are a filter wash: the baffle filters come out, get degreased, go back in, and the chimney still does not pull. That is because the filters are only the first stage, and the component that actually determines airflow is the centrifugal blower wheel behind them. Once its curved blades are coated in congealed grease, the wheel turns at full speed while moving a fraction of the air. If a quote does not explicitly include opening the canopy and cleaning the blower, it is not a deep clean.
Ask what happens to the filters. Baffle filters are stainless steel and are cleaned, not replaced -- unless they are physically warped or corroded, a proper degrease restores them completely. Being told your baffle filters are worn out and need buying is one of the two standard mis-sells in this trade. The other is charcoal filters offered for a ducted chimney, which cannot use them.
Auto-clean does not mean self-cleaning. The feature heats accumulated grease so it drains into a collector cup. It does not touch the blower wheel, the canopy or the duct, and it does not empty the cup. Auto-clean units frequently arrive with worse blower buildup than conventional ones, precisely because their owners were told the appliance handles itself.
There is a safety dimension. Accumulated cooking grease inside a chimney sitting directly above a gas hob is flammable. This is a real reason to keep a schedule rather than waiting for suction to fail.
Indian cooking changes the interval. Daily tempering and frying produce far more airborne oil than these appliances were originally designed around. Filters every few weeks and a full deep clean every six months is realistic; twelve months is the absolute minimum.
