Microwave Not Heating Repair in Bangalore

A microwave that lights up, turns and hums but leaves the food cold has a specific and short list of causes -- and every one of them sits behind a capacitor that can hold a lethal charge.

In depth

Everything runs but nothing heats: the high voltage side

This is the classic microwave fault. The turntable turns, the light is on, the fan runs, the timer counts down -- and the food comes out cold. Everything you can see is on the low voltage side and it is all working. The fault is on the high voltage side, which is the part that actually generates the microwaves.

A serious safety note first. The high voltage capacitor in a microwave can hold a charge capable of killing you for a long time after the appliance is unplugged. This is not the usual appliance-safety caution -- it is the single most dangerous component in a domestic kitchen. Discharging it correctly before touching anything is a fixed part of the procedure. Please do not open a microwave to investigate this fault yourself.

The magnetron. The component that actually produces the microwave energy. It is a consumable with a finite life, and when it fails you get exactly this symptom. It is the most commonly replaced part in a non-heating microwave, and on many models a magnetron plus labour approaches the cost of a new entry-level microwave -- so the repair-or-replace conversation is a real one, particularly on cheaper solo models.

The high voltage diode. A small component that, together with the capacitor, doubles the transformer voltage to the level the magnetron needs. When it fails the magnetron receives insufficient voltage and produces nothing. It is inexpensive, and it is worth testing before condemning the magnetron -- a failed diode often produces a loud buzzing during operation as a clue.

The high voltage capacitor. Same circuit, same symptom when it fails. Also inexpensive relative to a magnetron.

Door interlock switches. Microwaves use several interlocks so the unit cannot possibly run with the door open. A partially failed interlock can allow the fan and turntable to run while inhibiting the magnetron circuit. These are cheap switches and a common fault.

Thermal cut-outs. If the unit has overheated -- often from being run empty or with restricted ventilation -- a thermal fuse may have opened.

Order of testing matters here: diode, capacitor and interlocks first, magnetron last, because the cheap parts fail at least as often as the expensive one.

FAQ

Microwave Not Heating Repair in Bangalore — frequently asked questions.

Why does my microwave run but not heat the food?

Everything you can observe -- light, turntable, fan, timer -- is on the low voltage side and is working. The fault is on the high voltage side that generates the microwaves: usually the magnetron, high voltage diode, capacitor or a door interlock switch.

Can I open the microwave and check it myself?

Please do not. The high voltage capacitor can hold a lethal charge long after the appliance is unplugged, and discharging it safely requires the right procedure and equipment. This is genuinely the most dangerous component in a domestic kitchen.

Is replacing a magnetron worth it?

On a convection or premium model, often yes. On a cheaper solo microwave, the magnetron plus labour can approach the price of a new unit, and we will tell you that comparison honestly rather than just quoting the repair.

My microwave buzzes loudly and doesn't heat. What does that suggest?

A loud buzz during operation often points to a failed high voltage diode rather than the magnetron. That is a much cheaper part, which is exactly why it should be tested before anyone quotes a magnetron replacement.

Could running the microwave empty have damaged it?

Yes. With no food to absorb the energy it reflects back into the magnetron, which can damage it, and it may also trip a thermal cut-out. It is one of the few things that genuinely shortens a microwave's life quickly.

90-day service warranty, on every job.

If the exact same fault returns within 90 days of the visit, we fix it again at no charge — written on your digital bill, not just promised verbally. Replaced parts also carry the supplier's own part warranty on top.
