Why AC uninstallation needs a technician, not just anyone with a spanner
Taking an AC off the wall looks simple from the outside, but the part that actually needs skill is what happens to the refrigerant gas still sitting inside the system. Done wrong, it's released into the air -- wasteful, bad practice, and it means the unit needs a full gas charge again at the new location even though the gas was still good.
Pump-down first. Before any pipe is disconnected, the technician runs the AC in a mode that pumps all the refrigerant gas back into the outdoor unit and seals the valves there. This is what lets the same gas be used again after reinstallation, instead of paying for a fresh gas charge unnecessarily.
Careful disconnection. Once the gas is sealed in the outdoor unit, the copper piping is disconnected at the flare joints, and both indoor and outdoor units are removed from their mountings. Handling for transport. Indoor units have a delicate coil and blower assembly that doesn't tolerate rough handling; outdoor units are heavier but the fan blades and coil fins bend easily if knocked.
