Backlight or panel — the only question that decides the bill
Almost every television repair conversation should start in the same place, and on a Sony it matters more than most because these are expensive sets that people quite reasonably want to keep. A modern LED TV is two things stacked together: a liquid-crystal panel that forms the image, and a backlight of LED strips behind it that makes the image visible. They fail separately and the economics could not be more different.
Backlight failure is the good outcome. The classic symptom is a screen that appears completely black while the sound plays normally — and if you shine a torch at an angle onto the dark screen, you can faintly see the picture there. That is a set with a working panel and dead backlight strips. It is a strip-down, a strip replacement and a reassembly: real work, but a genuine repair with a proper outcome. Sony's Full Array models add a wrinkle worth knowing, because they use many independently driven zones, so a partial failure shows as a dark patch or band rather than a wholly black screen.
Panel failure is the bad outcome, and you deserve to be told plainly. Vertical or horizontal lines that do not move, a permanently half-dark screen with the other half fine, spidering cracks, or large blotches usually mean the panel itself or its bonded driver has gone. The panel is by far the most expensive component in the set — on a large Sony it commonly approaches or exceeds what a new television costs, and there is no partial fix. We will tell you that at the diagnosis visit and we will not sell you a repair we do not believe in. Some workshops will quote a "panel repair" for these symptoms; what is usually meant is a T-CON replacement that may improve the picture briefly.
Between those two sits the board work, which is often worth it. A set that will not power on, or clicks and gives up, is commonly the power supply board and frequently just the electrolytic capacitors on it — cheap and satisfying to fix. A picture with a negative or scrambled look, or ghosting, points at the T-CON. Dead HDMI ports are usually confined to the mainboard. All three are proper economic repairs on a Sony.
On OLED sets, one honest caution. Sony's A-series OLED panels cannot be economically replaced, and permanent image retention from a static news ticker or channel logo is not repairable at all. Board faults on OLED sets are fixable; the panel is not.

Is W2 an authorised Sony service centre?
No. We are an independent multi-brand service centre with no affiliation to or appointment from Sony India. If your set is inside Sony's warranty, use their own service channel — an outside repair will generally void it, and on a premium television that cover is worth protecting.
My Sony has sound but no picture. Is it repairable?
Usually yes, and this is the best-case TV fault. Shine a torch at the dark screen at an angle in a dim room: if you can faintly make out the picture, the panel is alive and the backlight strips have failed. That is a genuine, worthwhile repair. If there is nothing visible at all, the diagnosis moves to the panel or the T-CON.
There are vertical lines down the screen. Can that be fixed?
Usually not economically. Fixed lines, a permanently half-dark screen or blotches point at the panel or its bonded driver, and on a large Sony a replacement panel typically costs close to or more than a new television. We will tell you that plainly rather than sell you a repair that will not hold.
The TV clicks but will not switch on.
That is most often the power supply board, and very often just the electrolytic capacitors on it, which bulge and fail with age and heat. It is one of the cheaper TV repairs and one of the more reliable ones. Sets that boot-loop on the Sony or Google TV logo are a different problem — usually firmware, which we can often recover.
Is my burnt-in OLED repairable?
No. Permanent image retention on an OLED panel — a channel logo or news ticker ghosted into the screen — is physical wear of the organic pixels and cannot be reversed or repaired. Board and power faults on an OLED set are fixable; the panel is not, and we will not take money to try.
