Refrigerator Gas Filling in Bangalore
Refrigerant is not a consumable. If your fridge is low on gas there is a leak, and refilling without finding it is the most common way people pay twice for the same repair.
Refrigerator Gas Filling in Bangalore — what we check and fix.
- Leak detection before any charging work
- Leak repair at joints, evaporator or condenser
- System evacuation to remove moisture and air
- Charging by weight to manufacturer specification
- Correct refrigerant type (R600a / R134a) verification
- Filter drier replacement with every gas job
- Compressor performance testing after charging
- Cooling verification across both compartments
How refrigerator gas work should actually be done
A fridge's refrigerant circuit is a sealed loop. The gas circulates indefinitely and is not consumed, burnt or worn out. So a fridge that is genuinely low on refrigerant has a leak somewhere -- and that fact should shape the entire job.
Leak detection comes first. Charging a leaking system is pouring water into a bucket with a hole. The gas escapes over weeks or months, the fridge stops cooling again, and the customer is told it needs gas again. Doing it properly means pressure testing and tracing the leak with electronic detection or bubble testing at joints, and the usual culprits are brazed joints, the evaporator, and corrosion points on the condenser.
The leak has to be repaired. Depending on where it is, that means re-brazing a joint or replacing a section. Some leaks -- particularly pinholes in an evaporator buried inside the cabinet foam -- are genuinely uneconomic to repair, and when that is the case we will tell you that the fridge is not worth the work rather than take payment for a charge that will not last.
The system must be evacuated. Once repaired, air and moisture have to be pulled out with a vacuum pump before charging. This step gets skipped constantly because it takes time and needs equipment. Moisture left in the system freezes at the capillary and blocks it, and it reacts with the oil to form acids that eventually destroy the compressor. A fridge that cools beautifully for a fortnight and then stops has usually had this step skipped.
Charging is by weight, not by feel. Every fridge has a specified charge, printed on the rating plate and measured in grams. It is small -- often under 100g on domestic units -- so guessing by pressure or by touching the pipe is not accurate enough. Overcharging is as damaging as undercharging.
The filter drier is replaced every time. It absorbs moisture and is saturated once opened. Reusing it defeats the evacuation.
Get the refrigerant type right. Most newer domestic fridges use R600a, which is a hydrocarbon and flammable; older ones use R134a. They are not interchangeable, and R600a requires appropriate handling.

Refrigerator Gas Filling in Bangalore — frequently asked questions.
How often does a fridge need gas refilling?
Never, under normal conditions. The refrigerant circuit is sealed and the gas is not consumed by running. If it is low, there is a leak, and the leak is the actual repair -- the gas is just the consumable that gets replaced afterwards.
Why did my fridge stop cooling again a month after a gas refill?
Almost certainly because the leak was never found and repaired, so the new charge escaped the same way the old one did. It can also mean the system was not evacuated properly and moisture has blocked the capillary.
What is the difference between R600a and R134a?
R134a is used in older domestic fridges; R600a is a hydrocarbon used in most newer ones and is flammable, requiring appropriate handling and equipment. They are not interchangeable -- the correct type is on the rating plate.
Is gas filling worth doing on an old fridge?
It depends where the leak is. A repairable joint leak on a sound fridge is worth doing. A pinhole leak in an evaporator buried inside the cabinet foam usually is not, and we will say so rather than take payment for a charge that will not hold.
How long should a proper gas job take?
Longer than most people expect, because leak detection, repair, evacuation and weighed charging all take real time. A job finished in twenty minutes has almost certainly skipped the evacuation, which is what causes failures a few weeks later.
90-day service warranty, on every job.
If the exact same fault returns within 90 days of the visit, we fix it again at no charge — written on your digital bill, not just promised verbally. Replaced parts also carry the supplier's own part warranty on top.
