The Linear Compressor question, answered honestly
Almost every fridge ever built uses a reciprocating compressor — a crank turning a piston. LG's Linear Compressor drives the piston directly with a magnet and a spring, with no crank at all. Fewer moving parts, less friction, quieter, and meaningfully more efficient. It is genuinely good engineering, and LG backs it with a long compressor warranty, commonly ten years.
What that warranty does and does not do. This is the conversation worth having before anything else. If the compressor itself has failed and your fridge is inside the warranty period, the part is LG's responsibility and you should go to LG, not to us. We will check the manufacture date on the sticker inside the door frame and tell you that at the diagnosis visit. What the warranty does not cover is labour, gas, the inverter driver board, the fans, the sensors or the control board — and on a fridge that is not cooling, those are collectively the more likely culprits. So the honest sequence is: identify the failed part first, then decide who should fix it.
The driver board fails more than the compressor does. A linear compressor cannot run on mains directly; it needs an inverter driver board to feed it. That board sits at the back of the fridge, close to the compressor, and it takes heat and voltage fluctuation. Bengaluru's supply is not gentle to it. When the board fails the compressor never starts, the fridge is silent, and the symptom is identical to a dead compressor. Anybody who quotes you a compressor without testing the board is skipping the cheaper answer.
Then the fan, which people mistake for the compressor. On frost-free LG models a fan pushes cold air from the evaporator into the fresh-food compartment. If that fan fails, the freezer stays cold and the fridge section goes warm. Owners describe this as "the fridge is not cooling" and expect a gas or compressor bill. It is a fan motor. The tell is simple: freezer cold, fridge warm means airflow, not refrigerant. If both are warm, then refrigerant and compressor come into scope.
And the drain, which causes the puddle. Water collecting under the crisper drawers is the defrost drain blocked with ice or debris, not a leak. Meltwater from each defrost cycle cannot reach the tray so it backs up into the cabinet. Clearing the line fixes it. Left long enough it freezes solid at the back wall and looks alarmingly like a major fault.

What your LG error code is telling you.
These are the codes we are called out for most often. A code names the circuit that failed a self-test — it is a starting point for diagnosis, not a part order, and the same code can have a ₹0 cause and a ₹6,000 cause.
Er FF — Freezer fan
The evaporator fan is not reporting the expected speed. Usually a failed fan motor or one iced up because the defrost system has stopped working. Classic cause of a warm fridge with a cold freezer.
Er dH — Defrost heater
The defrost cycle did not raise temperature as expected. Points at the defrost heater, the bimetal thermostat or the sensor. Ice then builds on the evaporator until airflow stops completely.
Er rS / Er FS — Sensor fault
A temperature sensor is out of range — refrigerator sensor or freezer sensor. Inexpensive parts, but until replaced the fridge cannot regulate and will over-cool or under-cool unpredictably.
Er CO — Communication
The display board and main board have lost communication. Often a connector or harness issue rather than a failed board, which is worth establishing before a board is quoted.
Er IS — Ice maker sensor
On models with an automatic ice maker, the ice-maker sensor or motor has faulted. Does not affect cooling, so it can be lived with, but it will keep displaying.
Er 1F / Er IF — Ice fan
The ice-compartment fan is not running on side-by-side models. Ice production drops off and the compartment warms while the rest of the fridge stays fine.

If your fridge is inside LG's warranty — and the compressor warranty in particular runs for years — use LG's own channel. We check the manufacture date at the diagnosis visit and will tell you when that is the better route.
My LG fridge is not cooling. Is the linear compressor gone?
Probably not. Test the inverter driver board first — it powers the compressor and fails more often than the compressor does, with an identical symptom of a silent fridge. Then check the evaporator fan. A genuine compressor failure is comparatively rare, and if it has happened on a fridge still inside warranty, the part is LG's to replace, not ours to sell you.
The freezer is cold but the fridge section is warm.
That is airflow, not refrigerant. On frost-free models a fan moves cold air from the freezer's evaporator into the fridge compartment. A failed fan motor, or an evaporator iced over because the defrost system stopped, produces exactly this. Gas top-ups sold for this symptom do nothing.
Does the 10-year compressor warranty cover the whole repair?
It covers the compressor part only. Labour, refrigerant gas, the inverter driver board, fans, sensors and the main control board are all outside it, and those parts cause most no-cooling faults. We identify the failed component before quoting so you know which side of that line you are on.
There is water collecting under the vegetable drawers.
The defrost drain is blocked. Meltwater from each defrost cycle should run down a small tube to a tray above the compressor; when the tube ices up or silts, the water backs up into the cabinet instead. Clearing the drain line resolves it, and it is a routine job rather than a serious fault.
